BONT DECIDES ON EUROPEAN VENUE
Penybont FC will play its first qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League at the Cardiff International Sports Campus (CISC) on either July 10th or 17th. The exact date will be known following the draw in Geneva on June 17th.
The venue decision follows visits to potential stadia by a delegation of club officials and a detailed assessment of the key considerations involved.
Penybont FC Chief Executive, Neil Ward, said:
“The club’s preference would have been to keep the tie in Bridgend and we explored all possibilities to do that. However, after careful consideration of all the key issues involved in hosting an event of this profile, not least achieving the compliance criteria set by UEFA, it was just not realistically possible to do so.
Given the unavailability of other Football League stadia on the required dates, it was determined that the CISC Stadium was the best available venue in terms of match control, quality of facilities, playing surface and seating capacity. Whilst we understand that there may well be some disappointment amongst fans that our home venue for European matches will not be in Bridgend, we will strive to give spectators the quality of experience they deserve for a fixture of such importance.
A stadium that meets UEFA Licensing criteria for European tournaments is central to the club’s Facilities Vision and we recently received in principle support from the FAW to help us achieve this in the medium term once all necessary funding has been secured. Our immediate goal now though, is to create an experience for our loyal supporters at the CISC Stadium that they will not forget.
Wherever we play, home or away, I'm sure that everyone will get behind the team and create an exciting and unforgettable occasion for players and fans alike.”
Details on ticketing, hospitality and more will be released at the earliest possible date after the first qualifying round draw on Tuesday 17th June.
