MATCH REPORT: PENYBONT 2-0 LLANELLI TOWN

On a sunny Bank Holiday Monday, Penybont took on newly promoted Llanelli Town at the DragonBet Stadium in the JD Cymru Premier.

Bont came into the fixture with heads held high after a thrilling 3-2 victory over Barry Town United the previous Friday. From the first whistle, they pushed forward in search of an early opener, and in the 8th minute an opportunity presented itself — a promising Chris Venables header that drifted narrowly wide. But just four minutes later, Mael Davies found the net from a brilliant Jacob Jones corner to put Bont in front.

Still not satisfied, Bont went close again in the 36th minute when a powerful Nathan Wood strike from distance rattled the crossbar. As half-time approached, the boys in blue continued to press for a second. It looked as though the half would end 1-0, but one final chance fell Bont’s way, and Venables made no mistake, doubling the lead on the stroke of half-time.

Minutes into the second half, Noah Daley came close to adding a third, only to see his effort headed off the line by the Llanelli defence. Another chance came in the 73rd minute, when Wood struck narrowly wide of the target. In the 87th minute, Archie Matthews produced an outstanding save to deny Llanelli a late lifeline.

Bont sealed the three points and a clean sheet on Acrobatic Archie’s first start of the season!
