Match Report: Briton Ferry Llansawel 0-5 Penybont

Under Clear skies at the Renewable Centre Stadium, Bont took on Briton Ferry Llansawel in their first steps of the JD Welsh Cup. Both sides were eager to progress in this National tournament and fielded two strong teams. The sides had already faced eachother twice this season but both games ended in feisty draws and so this Cup Clash was anticipated to be a tension laiden encounter!

The game got underway at 2pm and almost immediately, Bont defender and league player of the month, Gabe Kircough found the net from a Nathan Wood cross to put Bont ahead! Bont continued the high press as Chris Venables struck a clever volley narrowly wide of the post! Bont were still far from satisfied and Gabe Kircough nodded in his second goal with an impressive glancing header to double Bont’s lead. At the half an hour mark, Bont still maintained dominance over the tie and Nathan Wood neatly slotted home a third for Bont but it was ruled out for offside. Bont spent no time sulking as minutes later, James Crole rocketed a third past a helpless Ferry Keeper. Bont ventured into the break with heads held high and came out for the second with a three goal advantage. However, the first opportunity of the half went to Ferry as Luke Armstrong made a super save to tip a dipping ball over the crossbar! Bont followed this with a triple substitution as Ash Baker, Chris Venables and Mark Little made way for Jac Clay, Owain Warlow and most notably, Owen Pritchard as he made his return from an injury that has kept him out so far this season. He was evidently thirsty for action as minutes after entering the field, he fired home an unstoppable strike from distance to mark his return! Bont made further changes as Jacob Jones and Ioan Phillips replaced Kane Owen and Nathan Wood, both of whom had put in remarkable shifts until that point! Ioan Phillips powered in a fifth, however a penalty had already been awarded to Bont! James Crole wasted no time in slotting home the final goal of the match and securing a comfortable 5-0 victory over our South Wales rivals!

Next up, Bont welcome Caernarfon in what is expected to be a highly competitive fixture at the DragonBet Stadium on Saturday!
