Match Report: Penybont 0-0 Briton Ferry llansawel

Rain raged over the Renewable Centre Stadium as Bont prepared to face Briton Ferry Llansawel in a JD Cymru Premier fixture. It proved to be a gritty yet clean game for Bont with not a single yellow card shown to the boys in blue!

Despite the challenging weather with high winds and heavy rain, Bont began with fierce hearts, battling hard against Ferry, in front of a crowd of over 700 supporters!A tenacious first half an hour saw a drilling Nathan Wood effort graze the outside of the post, but Bont’s first real notable effort came when Ioan Phillips pulled his strike over the bar just minutes before the break. Two minutes were added onto the first half and Bont went into the interlude on level terms with the home side.

The game got back underway and the weather certainly didn’t relent! In the 55th minute, a masterful Kane Owen wonder-strike knuckled cleverly towards the Ferry top corner from a free kick, but was tipped over the crossbar by the goalkeeper and the score remained even. Bont’s first change was made five minutes later as Billy Borge was replaced by Jacob Jones on the hour mark, closely followed up by a defensive change for Bont as forward, Ioan Phillips made way for the experience of Mark Little. The Bont boys asserted dominance over the game, most notably, Man of the Match, Ash Baker, who ran the midfield calmly, composed and utterly comfortably! A third and final Bont change was made in the 81st minute as Owain Warlow replaced captain, Kane Owen in an effort to seize all three points! Three minutes were added on at the end and Bont pushed forward for one final attack which found the clinical touch of striker, Chris Venables who struck the ball firmly but fired it over the bar. The referees whistle confirmed the goalless stalemate and Bont return to Bridgend with a point.

Next up, Bont return home to the DragonBet Stadium on Tuesday to greet fellow summer European competitors, Haverfordwest County in what will undoubtedly be a thrilling league encounter between two strong South Wales rivals!
