Match Report: Penybont 0-0 Colwyn Bay
A mild western wind fluttered the vibrant blue and white flags that hung over the DragonBet Stadium as Colwyn Bay made the hefty trip south to face Penybont in the JD Cymru Premier.
Fixture Underway
The referee commenced the tie at 2:30 and the opening quarter of an hour posed no real threat to either side.
Despite a few clever saves by a returning Dan Higgs, Bont’s first threatening opportunity came in the 22nd minute as Billy Borge unleashed a threatening ‘top corner' effort that was claimed by Alex Brown in the Colwyn net.
No breakthrough
Nathan Wood then won a free kick in the opposition half that was taken quickly by Owen Pritchard and then eventually dealt with by the Colwyn defence.
The next chances of the game went the way of the visitors as a George Hughes free kick was cleared by a carefully-positioned Nathan Wood before Dan Higgs made himself big once again to deny Jordan Davies an opener.
The next ten minutes were played in an end-to-end fashion with no clear opportunities going the way of either side until the referee blew his whistle to bring the opening act to a conclusion.
Second Half
Bont initiated the second half with a stark intention of seizing a lead however, the game gathered no real momentum and proceeded in a scrappy fashion.
Higgs denied Colwyn once again to keep the game on level terms before Bont launched an aggressive counter attack at the other end in an effort to take a lead.
Bont made their first substitution of the fixture as Clayton Green replaced Noah Daley in an effort to take all three points.
Dan Higgs suffered a collision in the back on the hour mark but recovered for a Colwyn Bay corner kick.
Bont create opportunities
The next obvious chance went the direction of Bont as Nathan Wood flew clean through on goal before a pull in the back forced the shot over the crossbar.
Bont then found themselves with another promising opportunity as ‘inside-the-box’ shots from Pritchard, Cvetkovic and Jones were blocked by the Colwyn defence.
Bont made another substitution with 20 minutes left on the clock as Nat Williams replaced Jacob Jones in a defensive substitution. Colwyn Bay then had an opportunity to open the scoring as Davies dragged a close range shot well wide of the post.
Closing Stages
Clayton Green powered a curling shot narrowly wide of the post on the 80 minute mark before Owen Pritchard was denied a close range shot.
The rest of the tie played out in a scrappy fashion before three minutes of added time were announced after 90 minutes and the session was brought to a final halt.
