Match Report: Penybont 0-0 Connahs Quay Nomads

Sunlight came to rest over the DragonBet Stadium’s pristine artificial grass as Penybont FC welcomed top-of-the-table rivals, Connahs Quay Nomads to Bridgend in what turned out to be a goalless draw

The first notable opportunity went the way of Bont as Nathan Wood let loose from distance but his effort was gathered by Kit Margetson in the Nomad’s net. Connah’s Quay pushed back at the other end of the field and despite knocking the ball around the Penybont penalty area, they had to wait until the half an hour mark for their first threatening chance. However, a dominant Luke Armstrong got low with precision and speed to deny Edwards and collect the ball. This save appeared to be exactly what Bont needed and so the home side began to push upfield, causing a real hazard to the Nomads.

Before Bont could gather any real momentum, the referee signalled the half time interval and so both teams ventured down the tunnel for their respective half time team talks.

Bont got back underway and immediately continued with the same level of intensity, pressing forward in search of an opener. On the hour mark, with Bont gaining almost complete dominance over the game, Owain Warlow substituted himself on (In Rhys Griffiths' absence) to replace centre back, Nat Williams. This was followed up by three further changes as Alex Cvetkovic, Noah Daley and Iona Phillips replaced Ash Baker, Nathan Wood and impressive debutant Ethan Cann in an effort to find what would now prove to be a winning goal. Bont swarmed the Nomad’s box in the final minutes with corner after corner taking place until Clayton Green fired a strike from outside the penalty area that was deflected to mark the end of the game.
