Match Report: Penybont 3-0 Trethomas Bluebirds
Heat poured down onto the artificial surface of the DragonBet stadium as Penybont welcomed Cymru South side Trethomas Bluebirds in a pre-season encounter as preparations continue ahead of the UEFA Conference League qualifiers.
A sizable and excited Bont fanbase watched on as Penybont immediately seized control from the off with a promising attack on goal. Mael Davies, fashioning the captain’s armband, lofted a daunting ball into the box that found the feet of Nathan Wood. Wood smashed the ball first time before it deflected off the post and back into play, where it reached Ryan Hill, whose header was collected by the goalkeeper.
Bont built off their positive opening to the game with yet another attack as Ryan Hill played in Nathan Wood. Wood delivered the ball on the volley to find the feet of Ethan Cann on the six-yard line, who made no mistake in smashing the ball beyond the keeper to put Bont ahead.
Bont’s offence simply refused to relent as Davies delivered yet another pristine ball, which found the feet of the new left-back, Eduino Vaz, whose shot was blocked and put out of play for a corner.
Ryan Hill continued his playmaking duties as another through ball found the feet of Nathan Wood, but his curling effort fell into the keeper’s hands.
Following a water break in the unrelenting heat, Bont once again went on the offensive as a powerful Vaz volley cleanly rattled the post as Bont searched to double their lead.
This was followed by some delicious link-up play from Tom Mehew and Nathan Wood, whose delivery found the clinical head of Ethan Cann, who directed the ball into the far corner of the net to make it 2-0.
Bont seemed unfazed by the sweltering conditions as the bombardment on the Trethomas goal continued after the break, which resulted in Ryan Hill slotting home a low driven strike to make it 3-0 with his first goal of pre-season since signing from National League side Aldershot last week.
Two Owen Pritchard free kicks were whipped narrowly wide of the post, but nonetheless provided a test for the visitors.
The game finished 3-0 as Bont now look ahead to their next pre-season test against fellow European competitors, Caernarfon Town in a behind-closed-doors fixture at the FAW’s Vale HQ.
